Why should we fast?

Could we be missing our greatest breakthrough because we fail to fast?

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. Matthew 4:1

As Jesus fasted in the desert, He was tempted by the same voice that had whispered to Eve. Yet Jesus responded, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) During your fast, if the enemy tries to tempt you, remember that you can defeat him by speaking God’s Word.

The Son of God fasted because He knew there were supernatural things that could be released only that way. How much more should fasting be a common practice in our lives? Fasting stirs a hunger in your spirit that goes deeper than any temporary hunger you experience in your flesh. When you hunger for God, He will fill you!!

Here are occasions when you might consider fasting:

1. To seek God’s favor in time of crisis, when there is trouble in your life. (Read Esther 4 and 5)
2. To receive focus or clarity from God, to get a breakthrough, understanding of a dream or vision. (Read Daniel 10:2-3 and Habakkuk 2:3)
3. For self-examination and consecration, for a spiritual checkup, to draw closer to God. (Read Jeremiah 36:6)
4. Before going into a battle, expanding your business, getting a promotion, or any new initiative. (Read Judges 20)
5. Intercession. To lift God’s judgment from someone else’s life (Read I Kings 21:20-29)
6. For healing. (Read Isaiah 58:6-9)
7. To have dominion and authority, to make you tough in the spirit, to take away fear. (Read Matthew 4)

Fasting is what prepares you for a new anointing, (Mark 2:20) new miracles, new closeness, and new intimacy with Him. It prepares the way for God to give you fresh revelation, fresh vision, and clear purpose.

ONE PERSON FASTING IS POWERFUL, BUT WHEN A GROUP OF PEOPLE BEGIN TO FAST, IT IS MULTIPLIED STRENGTH! IT IS MULTIPLIED POWER!
