From the Desk of Pastor Rob
Wow! The year has come upon us quickly and we as a Church have been on the move of God in an Awesome way. As I sit and think about “ALL” that God has done, I can’t help but give Him thanks. Thanksgiving Day is on the 22nd of this month and as a pastor, it is my responsibility to help our congregation understand the appropriate Biblical observance of the Thanksgiving season.
This season means many things to many people. Many people think about spending time with family, as this is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. Others look forward to watching the Lions and Cowboys games which play on Thanksgiving every year. Others go hunting because it’s near the beginning of the hunting season.
This is the perfect time of the year to teach the congregation about learning how to give God thanks in the toughest of circumstances. There are many scripture references that are related to giving thanks, I’m only going to share two of them.
[box type=”shadow”]“Let us come before Him with Thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.” Psalm 95:2-3[/box]
God commands us to give Him thanks. This season is a time for us to glorify His name through praise and worship. Giving praise to the Lord is closely related to giving thanks to God. This is one of the best ways to praise God for just how great He is in our lives.
[box type=”shadow”]“I always thank God for you because of His grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in Him you have been enriched in every way, in all your speaking and in all your knowledge.” I Corinthians 1:4-5[/box]
Body of Christ, we are not worthy of the love that God has for us. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Despite our own shortcomings, God has given us grace anyway. We don’t deserve His mercy and grace, but He gives it to us because He loves us. We have so much to be thankful for as none of us deserve eternal life. It is only because of what Jesus did for us on the Cross that we can have eternal life. At the end of the day, that is all that really matters. Give thanks! Give thanks! To God be the glory for “ALL” the things He has done!
