Prayer Focus: As you read and study Matthew 4:1, ask God for understanding and purpose.
Water is one of the original basic substances, which in moderation and proper amounts gives and sustains life. In Isaiah 32:2, water represents that which is refreshing. In John 7:38, water would be emblematic of the Spirit. Jesus is the living water. (John 4:10)
As Jesus fasted in the desert, He was tempted by the same voice that had whispered to Eve. Yet Jesus responded, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) During your fast, if the enemy tries to tempt you, remember that you can defeat him by speaking God’s Word.
The Son of God fasted because He know there were supernatural things that could bve released only that way. How much more should fasting be a common practice in our lives? Fasting stirs a hunger in your spirit that goes deeper than any temporary hunger you experience in your flesh. When you hunger for God, He will fill you!!
Fasting is what prepares you for a new anointing, (Mark 2:20) new miracles, new closeness, and new intimacy with Him. It prepares the way for God to give you fresh revelation, fresh vision, and clear purpose.
Could we be missing our greatest breakthrough because we fail to fast?
One person fasting is powerful, but when a group of people begin to fast, it is multiplied strength! It is multiplied power! (Excerpts from “Fasting” by Jentezen Franklin)
